Not too much to say on this front yet, because I haven't yet acquired my touring bike. I'm looking for a tourer that will let me cruise nicely on the good tarmac (especially the first few thousand miles across Europe), but which is also strong enough to cope with the dirt tracks I will sometimes have to ride on further east.

Steel-framed for strength and ease of welding should the need ever arise (let's hope not). Weight of bike isn't going to be too much of an issue given the amount of gear I'm going to have to carry anyway. Indestructability is more important.

Update 7th December 2003 - my bike is being built in the next couple of weeks by The Bike Shed. Details will appear here once the bike is up and running.
